Sackville House in East Grinstead was built circa 1520 and is a timber-framed house with rooms of wood and lime plaster. It was given to The Landmark Trust in 1995 who then undertook internal renovations.
In 2020 it was found that the Horsham Stone roof was in desperate need of extensive repairs and Clarke Roofing were appointed to carry out roofing and timber repairs to this charming property.
Works carried out by our team included repairs to stone and chimneystack, timber repairs, replacement of cast iron gutters and pipework, external decorations as well as reroofing using Horsham Stone and Keymer handmade clay tiles. The Horsham Stone tiles were single lapped and bedded onto Welsh Slate.
There are numerous examples of Horsham Stone roofs around East & West Sussex and the surrounding counties as a roofing material, particularly for mills, dovecotes, churches, manor houses and similar buildings. Completely rainproof and long-lasting it will last for hundreds of years.
