Case Study

Clarke Roofing were awarded the contract to install natural slates and lead sheet coverings to this new build property in Bexhill- On-Sea.

Our team installed Proctor Roofshield breathable membrane and 25x50mm battens. Natural Siga 81 green slates were the slate of choice by the client. The slates were graded into different thicknesses before they were moved and loaded up onto the roof.

The large property on the coast had 2 conical roof structures included in the design. The front elevation was to be covered in new lead sheet and the rear had natural slates installed.

Our team carefully installed the new roof covering with each slate being fixed with 2 copper nails. The slates to the conical structure had to be cut to maintain the bond and allow the slates to sweep around the curve of the roof.

The lead was installed to the front cone and the rear curved dormer, all to the current lead sheet association guidelines and patination oil was applied on completion. All hips and ridge tiles were bedded on mortar and additionally fixed with a mechanical fixing. The end result is a beautiful, watertight covering that will last many years.
