In 2023, re-roofing works were undertaken at Ashurst Wood Primary School, specifically targeting a section of the roof overlooking the main playground. The works commenced in Summer 2023.
Precision Roofing, Heritage Detailing, and Ecological Responsibility in One Project
The scope of the project included the complete removal and replacement of the existing tiled roof coverings. This involved the installation of new roofing membranes, treated battens, and high-quality clay tiles. Additionally, all associated rainwater goods, including gutters and downpipes, were replaced to ensure proper drainage and long-term durability.
The project also encompassed the stripping and replacement of roof coverings to eight dormer roofs, including their side cheeks, as part of a comprehensive upgrade. Internally, areas of ceiling affected by previous water ingress were addressed by carefully removing damaged sections of original lath and plaster and replacing them with modern plasterboard systems, in line with current building standards.
All works were carried out in full compliance with statutory wildlife protection regulations. Specifically, the project was conducted under the supervision of a licensed bat ecologist, ensuring that all activities were undertaken using approved methods and materials, and strictly in accordance with timescales and conditions set by bat conservation requirements.
The roofing works were completed to a Redland SpecMaster Specification, using Redland Rosemary Clay Classic tiles and fittings to maintain visual continuity with the existing structure while enhancing overall roof performance and durability.
