Case Study
Haywards Heath Health Centre

We replaced a 400m² asphalt roof at Haywards Heath Health Centre, a live NHS facility housing three medical practices. The work included installing a Bauderflex felt system with tapered insulation, replacing all rooflights, building a new water tank structure, and reinstalling ventilation units. Working closely with Oander Ltd and Bauder, we completed the project with minimal disruption to daily operations, ensuring patients and staff could continue using the facility throughout.

Project Brief

We were approached by Oander Ltd to replace the existing 400m² asphalt roof at Haywards Heath Health Centre. The building houses three separate medical practices operating from one facility, and the work needed to address water ingress while ensuring the busy NHS site could continue running smoothly.

Working on a live medical facility presented unique challenges. With patients and staff relying on the building every day, our work needed to be carefully coordinated to avoid any disruption to the practices below.

Our Approach

Matt Moore of Bauder specified a comprehensive roofing solution for the project. We installed the Bauderflex felt system, incorporating tapered insulation within the gutters and flat board insulation across the main roof area to deliver the best performance.

Rooflight Installation

We replaced all existing rooflights, timing the work precisely to ensure the medical practices could continue operating without interruption. This required careful coordination to maintain patient and staff safety throughout.

Water Tank Protection

A new bespoke timber structure was built over the existing water tank, then cladded in UPVC and topped with a felt roof for long-term protection.

Ventilation System Works

All ventilation units were carefully removed and reinstalled, with work planned around the building's requirements to maintain proper air circulation throughout.

Managing a Live NHS Facility

Pre-start consultations were essential to get the logistics right. We worked closely with all parties to schedule the work around the medical centre's operations, maintaining safety standards while keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.

Throughout the project, Bauder field technicians carried out regular site visits to monitor quality and ensure everything met specification. This oversight helped achieve a smooth sign-off when the work was completed.

Materials Specification

The project used Bauder Activator-Primer, BauderTEC KSD FBS air and vapour control, Bauder PIR FA-TE flatboard insulation, BauderFEC Sprint DUO underlay, BauderFLEX K4E, and Bauder Euroglaze rooflights.

Project Outcome

The project was completed successfully thanks to strong collaboration with Oander Surveyors and the technical support from Bauder. Our installation team deserves particular credit for their professionalism and attention to detail, delivering the work efficiently while maintaining the high standards expected on an NHS project.

We're pleased to have played our part in improving this important community facility.
